We couldn’t be more proud – Back-Roads tour leader Charlie Jaques or ‘CJ’ was awarded silver last night at the Wanderlust World Guide Awards, held at the Royal Geographical Society in London.

The World Guide Awards recognise the tour leaders who bring passion, energy and enthusiasm to their role. CJ was one of four finalists at the awards who were carefully selected by the judging panel, which included Wanderlusts’s editor-in-chief Lyn Hughes, best-selling travel author Bill Bryson and writer and TV presenter Mark Carwadine. As well as the accolade of being one of the best tour guides in the world, CJ also won a bursary to give to his charity of choice, which he has chosen as Freedom from Torture and Circus Kathmandu, both in Nepal.

Charlie has spent the last 15 years travelling the world as an expedition leader and now, of course, works for Back-Roads, leading our tours of France. Thanks to all of you who nominated CJ and wrote in with your testimonials – he came second out of a staggering 2,200 other guides!
